Dr. H.L. Chan Memorial Prizes in Chinese Management Regulations

The Department of Marketing has agreed to donate two annual awards, financed from the discretionary fund of the Department, to the University, with effect from 1998/99. Regulations are as follows:
 
The Faculty of Business, Department of Marketing and Department of Management have agreed to donate to the University HK$60,000, HK$30,000, and 30,000 respectively in 1999 for the establishment of an endowment fund to provide two annual prizes, financed from the discretionary fund of the Faculty of Business and the two Departments concerned. The following regulations shall apply with effect from 1999/2000:

1. the prizes shall be known as the "Dr. H.L. Chan Memorial Prizes in Chinese Management"
(陳興龍博士華人管理紀念獎學金)

2. The donated HK$120,000 will be invested in fixed bank deposit annually. 80% of the annual interest will be paid as the prizes, and the rest 20% will be reinvested together with the principal.

3. The prizes shall be awarded to two undergraduates pursuing their study in China Business major and minor respectively. 2/3 of the interest designated for the establishment of the prizes shall be awarded to the recipient majoring in China Business and 1/3, to the recipient minoring in China Business.

4. The selection of the award recipients shall be based on the performance achieved in the following aspects in the previous year:

  • Academic performance; and/or
  • Proven leadership, organisational ability and other personal qualities; and/or
  • Active participation in extra-curricular activities; and/or
  • Provision of service to fellow students, institution or the community

5. A selection panel will be set up by Department of Marketing in September each year. Each applicant or nominated candidate will be requested to submit an essay of his/her own choice. The panel will interview the short-listed applicants to select the award recipients.
