Winter Camp

The Department of Marketing organizes the Winter Camp each year during end of Semester A for their final year Marketing and China Business major students with the aim of providing an opportunity for undergraduates to obtain guidance and directions in preparing for their final year study and career planning. More than 50, half of the class, participated the camp held in Po Leung Kuk Resort Village in Pak Tam Chung, Sai Kung. The slogan for the camp was ¡§Flying Beyond Imagination¡¨ with an aim for enriching and encouraging them to further exploring their own strengths and opportunities so as to make them more competitive in job searching after graduation.

There are a number of activities involved inside the three day camp. Workshops relating to interviewing skills were held. Practitioners such as human resources consultations were invited to help student to do mock interviews. Alumni from the Department were also invited as guest to share their working experience with the students. They were from various industries which include advertising, public relations and professional selling. Students were benefited from hearing real experience from the alumni and this could help them to think about the nature of job they may like to plan to enter. There was also a session on delivering important information on local and overseas post-graduate study opportunities for students who plan to do further study after graduation.

Perhaps the highlight of the camp is the keynote speech session delivered by top management of renowned organizations. The purpose of this item is to let the students to have an opportunity to hear the top executives¡¦ work experiences and their expectations toward fresh university graduates. Miss Caroline Mak, the CEO of Mannings was invited as the keynote speaker in the camp. She shared her views on career planning and development which included some useful hints in tackling job interviews with the marketing students. Participants were all amazed by the speech by Caroline and they found it very valuable. ¡§I am glad that we have a chance to hear from the top management of large organization and learn about important tips in interviewing techniques from a real practitioner¡¦s perspective in an interactive atmosphere¡¨.

Through such a camping activity, participating students are made aware of the importance of continuous learning and career planning in their respective areas of study. It is most encouraging to witness that our students¡¦ learning has taken place in both inside and outside the lecture rooms.
